Using a few parts from a clock kit.
Not long ago I got a DIY clock kit that came with several clock movement mechanisms and different sets of hands. Unfortunately, it didn't come with assembly instructions, so I thought I'd share the 10 easy steps for assembling a DIY clock movement.
10 Easy Steps...
NOTE: View the video above if you're more of a visual learner and think it may be helpful.
Step 1.
Ensure there's a large enough hole on the clock face for the threaded shaft of the clock movement to fit through. Increase the hole size on the clock face and/or countersink on the back if needed.
Step 2.
If applicable, place the hanging hook over the threaded shaft. If your kit doesn't come with a hanging hook, skip this step.
Step 3.
Place the rubber gasket over the threaded shaft.
Step 4.
Place the threaded shaft of the clock movement through the hole of the clock face from the back.
Step 5.
Place the washer over the threaded shaft.
Step 6.
Screw the hex nut onto the threaded shaft.
Step 7.
Snap the hour hand onto the threaded shaft.
Step 8.
Snap the minute hand onto the threaded shaft.
Step 9.
Snap the second hand and/or cap nut onto the threaded shaft.
Step 10.
Insert a battery and adjust the time accordingly.
