In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:

Garfield the Cat Facts

Below are five interesting facts about the lasagna loving cat:

#1. Garfield's Birthplace.

Garfield was born in the Mamma Leoni's Italian Restaurant's kitchen. He weighed five pounds and six ounces at birth, significantly heavier than the average three-and-a-half-ounce newborn kitten. Garfield developed an appetite for pasta, forcing the owner to give him up to a pet shop.

#2: Jon's Job.

Jon Arbuckle was a cartoonist in the very first comic strip. In fact, he was depicted sitting at a drafting table working on his own comic strip.

#3: Garfield's Name.

Jim Davis, Garfield's creator, named the tabby cat after his grandfather, James A. Garfield Davis. James was named after the twentieth President of the United States of America, James Abram Garfield. Jim sometimes referred to his grandfather as a "large, cantankerous man," traits that are shared by Garfield the Cat.

#4: Odie's Original Owner.

In the comic strip's early history, a man named Lyman originally owned Odie. Lyman played the role of Jon's wacky roommate. Overtime, Lyman was phased out of the comics while Odie became a regular household member.

#5: Garfield's Other Names.

Garfield is named "Gustaf" in Sweden. The name was changed to reflect the country's local customs. Garfield is also known as "Karvinen" in Finland and "Pusur" in Norway.
