Completing a HOPE-Themed Art Challenge

I don't often do challenges, but I thought I'd give this one a go.

A YouTube creator I'm subscribed to, Discovering The Art of Living, proposed a challenge to complete an art project with any medium in the theme of HOPE. I typically like making my own personal challenges, but I thought I'd give this one a go. I created more than I thought I would.

How My Art Pieces Relate to HOPE

When I think of HOPE, I think about my loved ones, my friends, and their genuine kindness that keep me 'going' each day. The heart shapes I used for most of my pieces represent the love I have for them and the love they have for me.

When I initially did the acrylic pour, I chose the following colors based on what those colors typically represent:

  • Pink - love and admiration

  • Violet - compassion and sensitivity

  • Gold - richness (in family bond and friendship), happiness, and positivity

If you research color theory, you'd find that each color represents more than what I listed. However, I chose these colors to represent how I feel about the remarkable people in my life.

I tried using my Cricut Maker to cut heart shapes from the basswood sheet I poured onto. Unfortunately, the machine wouldn't complete all its passes on this and a plain basswood sheet. I assume my machine doesn't like cutting curvy shapes, but I'll have to troubleshoot and try it again to verify my assumption.

To me, HOPE is synonymous with making a WISH. Both words are used to express a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen. I always wish for a better and lovely tomorrow for my loved ones, friends, and others.

When I was a child, I loved gazing into the night sky observing the stars and moon. Of course, I was quick to make a wish upon a shooting star. I don't know about other children, but I often wished for my family's increased happiness, especially during the most challenging times in life. I wanted everyone else to be happier than I felt some days.

It made sense to use sheets from my Orion's Belt Hot Buy paper pack for a couple picture frames. The dark blue colors of the sheets I chose are representative of loyalty and trust.

My Thoughts

I typically like making my own personal challenges based on how I'm feeling, but I thought I'd give this HOPE Art Challenge by the YouTube creator, Discovering The Art of Living, a go.

It was a fun challenge that spanned a few days. I intended to make the one large acrylic pour heart, but I ended up making six pieces in total. I also have more of the basswood sheet I did the acrylic pour over. I may be able to cut out other shapes for use on future projects.

This challenge was an art exercise that kept my mind preoccupied. I spent time thinking about what HOPE meant to me. I also spent a lot of time troubleshooting technical issues with my Cricut Maker and figuring out what to do to make the pieces look OK.

What's Next?

With Easter around the corner, I want to complete some Easter-themed projects. I'm not sure what to do quite yet, but I'll share my thoughts and experiences about it with you soon.
