Just daydreaming about things I want to do someday.
There are so many types of arts and crafts' projects for someone to try their hands at. The creative possibilities are endless! However, there are three crafty projects and/or supplies I want to try sooner than later.
In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:
1. Pottery Wheel
I took several ceramics courses while attending community college. If I had easy access to a kiln, I would put polymer clay crafts behind me and focus on traditional clay pottery.
Unfortunately, my college professor was anti-pottery wheel. She kept the only wheel in the studio locked in a cabinet. Every clay project was created by hand. It was a fun experience. I created some unique looking pieces (e.g., cookie jars, mugs, plates, etc.) that I sold to help pay for my education out-of-pocket (I did not have financial aid while pursuing my Associate degree).
While I appreciated the way I learned about traditional clay pottery basics, I want to try using a pottery wheel. Before I dived into it, I would need to research the pros and cons of an electric-powered wheel versus the old-fashioned wheel with foot pedals. However, I do not foresee myself giving this a try soon.
2. Needle Felting
I watched many needle felting videos online and enjoyed what I saw. I have many ideas for felted creatures I want to create. Since I am a Disney's Stitch fanatic, I would make the character in different sizes to build my army of Stitches. There are other characters and creatures I want to make as well.
Needle felting looks like a great way to relieve stress by stabbing wool repeatedly, provided that I do not accidentally stab my fingers in the process.
I almost bought myself a beginner’s needle felting kit during Prime Day in July. Since I set myself a hundred-dollar limit for Prime Day, I had choices and sacrifices to make. The needle felting kit resides in my private wish list for now.
3. Book Binding
Technically, I have already dabbled in book binding. Last year I created a DIY Travel Book using the perfect binding (or glue binding) method. I have also done saddle stitch binding, comb binding, and spiral binding in past jobs.
However, there are other types of book binding methods I want to try.
Now that I own a beginner’s book binding supplies kit, I want to try the following types of book binding:
Case binding,
Coptic binding, and
Japanese bookbinding.
Each type requires the use of a needle and thread to bind the pages together. Books made with one of these methods are sturdier and last longer.
This is a project I hope to start soon. I want to make myself a watercolor hard cover book. I may make additional books to gift for the winter holidays.
