Have you ever pondered some of the greatest mysteries in life? Who was Jack the Ripper? Where did Amelie Earhart disappear to? How did that darn sock disappear during the dry cycle? Curious Events Day on 9 October 2021 is a day celebrating one's curiosity of unsolved mysteries.

About This Day

Curious Events Day takes place on October 9th every year. It's a day to ponder the unknown and wonder about unsolved mysteries.

The origin of this random day of celebration is a mystery. I couldn't find any information about who created this day or when it became widely celebrated in the nation.

Some online sources suggest that this day originated as a PR stunt, but what for is also a mystery. However, like many great mysteries of the world, it's an intriguing holiday that piqued my interest and curiosity.

How to Celebrate

Curious Events Day is a great day to research, theorize, or answer the questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

Debasish Mridha, M.D., said, "Curiosity is the beginning of knowledge, but understanding is the beginning of wisdom." So, why not treat the day as a fun learning opportunity?!

There are three ways you could celebrate this random day of celebration:

  • Research and try to find your own answers about curious events.

  • Read and/or watch documentaries about famous events.

  • Create your own theory or fictional story about what happened.

There was a scene in the Disney+ Loki series that illustrated the show's take on who D.B Cooper was and what happened after he skyjacked an aircraft in 1971. While I knew it was a fictional take on a real-life unsolved mystery, I enjoyed the show's take on that historical event.

I believe it could be fun to create a fictional ending to some of the world's unsolved mysteries which is why I suggested creating your own fictional story about what happened.

Things I Get Curious About

There are some things, big and small, that I sometimes wonder about. Below are some of those things that piqued my curiosity:

  • Who created this bizarre holiday?

  • How did this holiday become so popular and celebrated by many?

  • How were ancient pyramids really created?

  • How many "extinct creatures" still thrive and are just hiding well?

  • Why do people still eat Pufferfish?

  • Is the Loch Ness Monster real?

  • Were any past reported Bigfoot sightings real?

  • Where did the idiom 'curiosity killed the cat' originate from?

  • Why are there no new stories or reports about people disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle?

  • Why did people quit making the man-made monoliths of 2020?

  • Why do some socks disappear?

  • Can extra flexible people touch their elbows to their chin?

  • Where is Waldo?

  • Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

  • How many licks would it take a cat to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

  • Why do some men like to wear their pants below their butts?

What's Next?

I'll watch some documentaries over the weekend, but I may also write some short fictional stories depicting what happened during and after some famous events. It'll be a fun and creative way to spend my weekend.
