February 2023 Journal Design

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

Using floral stickers and gouache paint.

I used floral stickers as my inspiration for my February journal design theme.

NOTE: While the pages are like those who setup their Bullet Journals (BuJo), I use this journal more as a memory keeper/diary. The BuJo-inspired pages encourage me to make note of the good things in life, even on the worst days.

In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:

Calendar Overview Pages

"February Overview" Pages

The calendar overview is where I note important dates I want to document in my journal.

The larger calendar fills much of both pages. I note events such as birthdays, appointments, and holidays within the appropriate block that represents a day in the month. During the month, I will make a short note of something that happened.

On the right, I added two new boxes: best of feb... and worst of feb... I always felt my calendar overview pages were lacking, so I decided to add some new elements. There are five lines within each block. I may revisit these blocks at the end of the month to note the top five best and worst things of February.

I also have a mini calendar for next month and another box where I'll note next month's events coming soon. I like being able to visually see ahead to things I may need to be aware of before those days come.

Productivity-related notes like to-do lists are managed in a separate and more simplistic Bullet Journal.

I had left old floral stickers I used as inspiration for my design theme. I placed a few to fill some empty space. I did not want the stickers overlapping the blocks, so I used a dull craft knife to cut around the block lines. Fortunately, I did not cut into the pages.

I used gouache paint to match the background color of the sticker sheet for the background of my pages.

Highlights, Hobby, and Dog Pages

Every night, I write a line of text highlighting one good thing about that day on my highlights page (left). I will write about a simple thing that made me happy. Even on the worst days, I try to think about a highlight of that day to write down. This page is intentionally left blank since I will fill it in throughout the month.

I changed the layout of what I used to title the hobbies & dog page (right). I will still track when I complete my favorite hobbies. While many journal enthusiasts track their habits, tracking my favorite hobbies reminds me to dedicate time for myself and happiness. The hobbies I track are:

  • arts + crafts,

  • writing, and

  • gaming.

My dog's care and happiness is equally important. Now that I only have one dog, I decided to change what I tracked for him:

  • when he goes for a joy ride,

  • when he went for a long walk,

  • when he received teeth care with brush chews or teeth brushing, and

  • any notes I want to document (e.g., if he has an upset stomach).

As I did with the previous pages, I added stickers and painted the background with gouache paint. I thought I would like the more muted background colors for these pages, but I realized looking back that I preferred the bolder colors I used on the overview pages.

Mood Page

I treat my mood tracker page (left) as a coloring page of sorts. Each night, I will color-in a part of an image (or shape) that represents my overall mood for that day: awesome, meh/OK, sick, or bad/sad.

I drew twenty-eight flowers that I will color-in each night. In retrospect, I wished I made the flowers larger to fill-in the page. I love when images overlap, and there was not much overlapping on this page.

I also wished I used bolder colors for the background. I may revisit the pages and add more paint to achieve the look I prefer. Then again, I am lazy and may leave the pages as-is.
