What is Online Window Shopping?
Window shopping is an old activity of looking at products through storefront windows without going into the establishment to purchase the products. Online window shopping is similar, except in an online environment.
According to Urban Dictionary, online window shopping is "the act of browsing through items that are available for purchase online without the intention of purchasing them."
Online window shopping is also referred to as virtual window shopping or web browsing. I personally refer to it as daydream splurging since I am only imagining the products I want to buy.
Why Online Window Shop?
For many people, online window shopping is a recreational activity. They daydream about products they one day want to own but are either unwilling or unable to purchase at the moment.
Online window shopping is a way to research products people eventually intend to purchase but want to make sure they get the best product or deal available.
People also do some online window shopping for inspiration. Product photos and videos may give people ideas for a new style to wear, gift to give, craft to make, and more.
I tend to do my online window shopping while I am sitting in a waiting room or on my computer in the comfort of my own home. Since there is a large online sales event at time of writing this post, I have been browsing deals of various products I would like to own one day.
Although I mentioned that people window shop without the intention of purchasing products, sometimes it leads to impulse buying.
Impulse buying has its share of pros and cons. If you are tempted to purchase a product on a whim, make sure it’s within your financial budget.
If money is tight, either fight the urge or keep browsing for a better deal. The best part about online window shopping is the ability to lounge comfortably at home while you browse.
Since I receive a small monthly income, I typically avoid splurging on products I do not need. However, I treat myself every few months to something I want and do not need, provided that I felt I deserved it.
What am I Online Window Shopping for this Summer?
As an aspiring artist and crafter, I am regularly online window shopping for creative inspiration. I research ideas for handmade and digital products I can sell.
Since I meet the eligibility requirements to join the YouTube Partner Program to access YouTube Shopping features early, I am researching ways to take advantage of everything available to me.
With it being Amazon's Prime Day at the time of writing this post, I took advantage of the online sales event to get a few items for my dogs. My puppy, Lucy, will soon have a sturdy backseat cover hammock for my SUV. My small dog, Rascal, will soon have a backpack carrier for when he quits in the middle of a long walk.
What's Next?
Why not do some online window shopping if you have some time to kill today? Maybe you will find that product you have needed or wanted (and deserve) for the past several months at a discounted price.
