It's Cliché Day!
Ever heard or said the phrase, "That's such a cliché?" Today's a good excuse to say over-and-over again! In celebration of Cliché Day, I thought I'd list some of the clichés I've heard over-and-over-again from time-to-time.
What is a Cliché?
A cliché is a stereotype, or over simplified, expression that's become commonplace through overuse. It's a phrase you've likely heard over-and-over again.
The word originated from French. It once referred to the clicking of cast iron plates used in a printing press to reproduce words, phrases, or images called stereotypes.
Over time, the word cliché represented words or phrases repeated often.
Random List of Clichés
Just for fun, I decided to share a list of random clichés I've heard repeatedly in my past. Perhaps you've heard of these, too.
Actions speak louder than words.
Read between the lines.
Better safe than sorry.
Go seize the day.
Time flies.
Cat got your tongue?
Brave as a lion.
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
All is well that ends well.
Laughter is the best medicine.
Ignorance is bliss.
They lived happily ever after.
S/he's as clever as a fox.
I'm frightened to death.
Don't cry over spilled milk.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
You can't judge a book by its cover.
Time heals all wounds.
I love you more than life itself.
Love is blind.
How to Celebrate the Day
Why not reference clichés when you're speaking with someone? At the very least, you'll have fun using the words and phrases that have been overused in your conversation.
At the same time, using a cliche may be all that's needed to brighten someone's day. After all, cliches, while repetitive to many, may be the uplifting words and phrases someone needs to hear today.
What's Next?
It's been a while since I crafted, so I'll do that after I post this blog. Because of my latex allergy which seemed like it lasted an eternity, I lost track of time with the arts and crafts projects I wanted to complete. I'll have something ready to post for Thursday in the nick of time. I just need to remind myself that not all that glitters is gold.
