My New Felting Needles Kit

Plus a few other needle felting supplies.

I recently got a small felting needles kit and a few other items to add to my growing supplies collection. I did not need these items, but I hope it will be useful as I continue learning the craft.

In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:

I have yet to break a needle, but I heard breakage happens regularly. I got a small felting needles kit that included more needles than I need plus some other useful supplies.

The package contents included:

  • 1 clear storage case

  • 2 cleaning cloths

  • 2 finger gloves*

  • 3 wooden needle holders (1-needle holder, 3-needles holder, and 8-needles holder)

  • 20 positioning pins

  • 30 thick needles (36 gauge)

  • 30 middle needles (38 gauge)

  • 42 thin needles (40 gauge)

*The fore finger glove was a tight squeeze for my chubby finger. Fortunately, the thumb glove fit well.

The fore finger glove was sewn in a way that the skinny size does not fit my finger properly. Hopefully this was just a fluke for me and not all buyers of this kit. The thumb glove fit well.

I recently used the 3-needles holder for a needle felted lady bug I completed recently. Using the multiple-needles holder made shaping the body quicker than using the single-needle holder. It seems to be best used for shaping larger chunks of wool like the ladybug's body.

Carded Wool

The larger needle felting kit I first used last month came with many wool colors excluding black and white. I got two batts of carded wool: Ebony Black and Cloud Gray.

I mistakenly selected the Cloud Gray carded wool. I meant to get Snow or Milk colored wool but did not pay attention while making my selection. The Cloud Gray will still be useful for the craft.

Embroidery Hoop

I got a six-inch embroidery hoop for a flat felted craft. Since I have the supplies, I might as well give flat felting a try one day. I do not yet know if the hoop is necessary for flat felting, but I figured it would not hurt to use it.
