Were you late for something today? Just tell people you were celebrating National Be Late for Something Day. Always punctual? Why not live on the edge and be late for something today?

In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:

Definition of Procrastinate

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary online, procrastinate means "to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done." Laziness and apathy are usually to blame for procrastination.

About This Day

This random day of celebration was created by the Procrastinators' Club of America to encourage people to slow down and take a break. It also encourages people to look at the positive elements of procrastination.

The Procrastinators' Club of America was established in 1956 as a joke by Les Waas. In 1966, he registered as a business based in Pennsylvania. It seems the club delayed establishing a legitimate website at the time of writing this blog post.

Despite not having a website that I could find, the club's "philosophy of relaxation through putting off until later those things that needn't be done today" is shared through National Be Late for Something Day.

How to Celebrate

Why not put off what does not have to be done immediately today? Take time to take a breather and enjoy the simple things in life. The key to celebrating this random day is by taking time for yourself.

If you choose to be late to something involving other people, be considerate by letting others know that you will be running late. Also let them know approximately how late you expect to be late.

Being late for a casual event like lunch with friends. Go ahead and be several minutes late for a movie at your local theater. After all, the first half hour are just ads and trailers.

DO NOT be late for something important like a job interview or jury duty. There may be some cases where it is best to put off some tasks to focus on more important or time-sensitive tasks.

The key is to take a breather and enjoy life. Take breaks whenever possible. Take deep breaths when things are too stressful. Take care of yourself.
