Thinking of homeless animals over the holidays.
Operation Santa Paws takes place every year from December 1st through the 24th. Consider helping a homeless animal this holiday season.
In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:
About This Day
Justin Rudd founded the event in 2001 to support local animal shelters in and around Long Beach, CA. Over the years, humane societies, animal shelters, and more celebrated their own version of Operation Santa Paws to support homeless animals across the nation.
How To Celebrate
There are at least three ways you can help homeless animals in your area:
1. Donate
You can donate money, toys, blankets, and other supplies to your local shelter. I have donated unopened bags of food to area shelters since animals will always need to eat.
If you are not sure what to donate, ask your local shelter. They usually have a list of items they need to care for the animals.
2. Volunteer
If you have some free time, consider offering a little bit of it to your local shelter. Some shelters are understaffed, especially around the holidays. Check with your local shelter to see if they are accepting volunteers this time of year.
3. Adopt or Foster
This option is not feasible for some people, but it is something others may consider if time, space, and dedication is not an issue. There are always animals in need of a home.
Even if you can only foster, it offers an animal a safe and comfortable temporary living solution until a forever home is found for them.
What's Next?
Consider participating in Operation Santa Paws by supporting your local shelters and helping homeless animals! I do not know if I am ready to part with some of my late dog's belongings, so I will likely donate a monetary gift to a local animal shelter this year.
