When's the last time you took a solo trip? If it's been a while, or you've never gone on a vacation alone, today's a great day to start planning for your solo trip. After all, it's Plan a Solo Vacation Day!

About this Day

After searching online, there are many websites that acknowledge Plan a Solo Vacation Day, but there's no information about who created this random day of celebration and why it was created.

Whether the creator of this day had nobody to travel with or just wanted a trip all their own, this is a great day to plan a solo vacation for yourself. At the very least, you can consider the pros and cons of solo travel and if it's right for you.

How to Celebrate

Is there someplace you want to visit but can't convince a family member or friend to travel with you to that destination? Do you need a couple days away from your family to clear your mind? Are you ready to go somewhere ASAP even if family or friends can’t devote the time to go with you?

The best way to Plan a Solo Vacation Day is to just do it. Think about the places you want to visit and take the following into consideration during your planning:

  • Budget,

  • Timeframe,

  • Transportation,

  • Accommodations,

  • Meals, and

  • Itinerary (unless you decided to wing it).

Create a solo vacationer checklist of the things you need to do in advance and pack for the trip. If you don't want to create your own checklist from scratch, you can print a vacation checklist from the Web or download a vacation planning app onto your mobile device.

Even if you don't foresee yourself ever vacationing alone, use today as an opportunity to consider the pros and cons of solo travel.

Why Consider Going on a Solo Vacation?

Most people think about traveling with family and/or friends when going on vacation. However, vacationing on one's own has its rewards and benefits.

Below are a few reasons you may want to plan for a solo vacation:

  • Freedom of doing what you want, when you want, and how you want to.

  • You're only responsible for yourself (independence) and not influenced by another person's wants or needs.

  • Increased self-confidence knowing you can do it on your own.

  • Ability to adjust your plans as you see fit to do so.

  • Discover more about yourself by evaluating what you like, dislike, want, and need while vacationing solo.

What's Next?

I'm planning for my solo vacation to southern California to visit Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood. I don't have actual plans to go on vacation this year, but at least I'll be prepared if the opportunity arises!
