Ways I'll document WDW travel memories in my journal.
Since I'll be heading on a road trip to Walt Disney World later in the month, I designed additional pages to document my travel memories in my journal/diary. This is another part of my September 2021 Journal Design.
NOTE: While the pages are like those who setup their Bullet Journals (BuJo), I use this journal more as a memory keeper/diary. The BuJo-inspired pages encourage me to make note of the good things in life, even on the worst days.
The Design Theme
I got the idea for the pages I designed from a My Walt Disney World Travels journal I purchased at Walt Disney World (WDW) years ago.
The journal had many spreads and sections for me to write down experiences, thoughts, sights, favorites, and more related to a WDW trip.
There were also spreads and sections for me to write or doodle about the travel day(s) leading to the WDW trip. I'd recommend this WDW travel journal for any child or child-at-heart who'd want to document their trip in a fun way if it's within the budget. It's an alternative to creating your own travel journal if you don't have the time to do so. A total of four separate trips could be documented in one journal.
I wanted to simplify the concept within my own journal to document memories of my upcoming trip.
Disney Bingo!
For months, I've created a bingo page as a fun way to set and track monthly goals. I'd color-in a square after I complete a goal within that month. If I complete a straight-line bingo, I'd treat myself to an unnecessary purchase like a new video game.
This time around, I wrote down goals I want to see, do, or purchase at WDW. There are several things I selfishly want to get for myself, so I wrote down several Disney merchandise 'treats.'
Since Disney Parks recently increased the prices of their merchandise, I may not buy myself any souvenirs. However, I do plan to get my dogs new leashes and collars. They're good boys and deserve quality accessories.
I sketched and painted a Mickey head in the 'free space' of the bingo page, but I kept the design on this page minimal since I'll add color to it during my trip.
The Road Trip
I'll be driving my motorhome a little over a thousand miles to go from Texas to WDW. I'll likely stop overnight somewhere in Mississippi or Alabama on the way before checking into the WDW Fort Wilderness campgrounds.
I may leave a day earlier than planned to account for bad weather, standstill traffic, or anything else that could delay our arrival time to the Fort. I thought it'd be nice to note the days I leave and arrive at my destination.
Sometimes something interesting happens on the road. I dedicated space to write short descriptions of interesting things I see or experience on my drive that I want to remember.
I sketched and painted a motorhome on the road at the bottom of the left page. I tried to get it to resemble my actual motorhome, but it looks more like an extra-long RV wearing a weird blue beret to the side and a mouse nose disguise on the front. Can you see that, too?
The right page was intentionally left blank. I plan to print a few of my favorite road trip photos with my small portable printer. The photos print on 2"x3" photo sticker paper I could adhere to the page.
I accidentally got paint splatter on the page when I didn't intend to do so, but I went ahead and continued paint splattering the page for consistency. It's a happy accident that created a unique background for the photos I'll stick to it later.
WDW Memories
I dedicated sections for listing the following from my trip:
Rides I get to go on,
Characters I spot in the parks,
Food and drinks I get to taste,
Animals I spot in the parks and at the campgrounds,
Shows I get to watch, and
Miscellaneous whatever else, like souvenirs I purchase, I come across during my trip.
I struggled sketching Chip and Dale, probably because it was my first time sketching these two characters. Since I had images of each on a phone, I decided to cheat by placing the phone under the page and tracing the characters' outlines.
I semi-successfully sketched Kevin on the right. I don't know why, but she was easier for me to sketch than the chipmunks. This may be because I've sketched Disney birds. I also sketched a Mickey ice cream bar since Kevin loves her chocolate.
My Thoughts
I believe these are fun activity pages for memory keeping. These pages will allow me to document aspects about my upcoming WDW trip I don't want to forget about.
I wasn't sure if I should've created more pages, but I figured I could write about other things in my normal journal/diary entries. If I get to go on the trip without having to cancel for whatever unforeseen reason, I'm sure I'll have lots to write about. After all, it'll be my first vacation (excluding visits to my Mom's house) in over two years.
What's Next?
If I don't have to cancel my trip due to COVID, bad weather, or other unforeseen reasons, I'll share parts of my travel stories with you later this month or early next month.
