Trying Ohuhu Alcohol Ink Markers

A total of 120 markers with a travel carrying case.

My Dad recently gifted me a set of 120 Ohuhu alcohol ink markers with carrying case. I decided to try them out and see how they compared to other alcohol ink markers I have used in my past.

In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:

Quick Note

I am not an expert or hard-core enthusiast of alcohol ink markers. I likely do not know the proper techniques for using alcohol ink markers to their fullest potential.

I just wanted to share my thoughts about these markers from the perspective of an adult who likes to complete full pages in coloring books every now and then.

Package Contents

The 120 Ohuhu Alcohol Markers set sells for around $63 USD through Amazon.com. My Dad is like me and rarely pays retail price for anything. He bought the set during the previous Memorial Day sale in May when it was on sale.

If you are looking at purchasing this or another alcohol ink marker set through Amazon, I recommend waiting for a sale like the upcoming Prime Day on July 12th and 13th.

The package contents included:

  • Carrying case

  • 120 dual tip alcohol ink markers

  • Colorless blender

  • Booklet

  • 2 swatch cards

  • Silicone pad

The carrying case was made of black fabric with the Ohuhu logo infused on the front. It had a carrying handle on the top and a long, adjustable shoulder strap clipped to either side. A single zipper allows the top to be opened or securely closed. The case not only stored the alcohol ink markers, but it contained a flat pocket within.

There are a total of 120 dual-tip alcohol ink markers. Each marker contains a bullet and chisel tip on either end. The bullet tips are easily identified by a gray band that separate the cap from the marker barrel. There is also a bonus colorless blender included in this set.

The booklet includes information about the Ohuhu company, the markers included in the set, a blending tutorial, and some frequently asked questions.

Silicone Pad
Silicone Pad

The silicone pad is to place behind paper you will use the alcohol ink markers on. The print read, "If you are coloring on thin paper, please put this pad between your coloring sheets to prevent any bleed thru." The markers are heavily saturated, so it is essential to use this or another barrier of sorts to protect the pages below the one being colored.

The swatch cards were a great addition. I always swatch colors on paper since they typically do not match the colors on the cap. This saved me the extra time and effort of creating my own swatch sheet(s).

My Thoughts

Overall, I would rate these at four out of five stars! The markers were heavily saturated ("juicy" as I like to call it) and made for a pleasant coloring experience. Blending colors was easy because of this. The more saturated an area was, the better the colors blended with one another.

These alcohol ink markers were significantly better than the Artist's Loft, Masters Touch, and Firefly alcohol ink markers I own. The Ohuhu markers were juicier than the others I mentioned.

It did not take a lot of effort or repetitive coverage to fill-in an area. Hopefully, this means I use less ink with the Ohuhu markers making it last longer than the other brands.

These are a touch better than the Craftgear Dual-Tip Alcohol Markers my niece gifted me last year. Not only are the Ohuhu markers juicier, but I was able to blend contrasting colors well. This was not something I was able to do easily with the Craftgear markers as I noted in my Trying New Alcohol Ink Markers blog post.

I still recommend the Craftgear alcohol markers over the Ohuhu ones if you are trying to save money. The Craftgear would be great for beginners and amateurs who color leisurely for fun. They also come in a hard case that make them more portable than many of the Ohuhu sets.

If you can afford it or are willing to pay extra, the Ohuhu markers are better quality with more vibrant colors options. If my cheap self with a little spending cash had to choose between the two, I would choose the Ohuhu brand after having used it for a few weeks.

The carrying case is awesome! The portability proved convenient when I traveled to my Mom's house last month with a few coloring books.

Two Marker Carrying Cases

I have a separate 120 slot marker carrying case I bought years ago. This carrying case was fine when I traveled alone or in a motorhome, but it was bulky to haul in my car's small trunk for a road trip, especially when I traveled with others.

I imagine the Ohuhu sets that come with more markers include larger, bulkier carrying cases. Those would be bulky to haul in a small car trunk with other luggage.

The case for the set my Dad gifted me is half the size of my other case. Depending on who I travel with for a future road trip, I hope this is small enough to haul with me.

I have yet to see if the Ohuhu alcohol ink markers work well with the other brands I own. After I initially tried these at home and recorded a video for my YouTube channel, I only used these when I visited my Mom for a few days last month. I may dedicate these markers for long picnic days or road trips only since it is quick and easy to grab the carrying case and toss it into my vehicle.

What's Next?

Now that I have new markers, I have been coloring a lot more lately. I am sure the desire will die down a bit and I will move on to some other project I can share with you.
