Three things that always exist in-dream.
My two dogs are regularly a part of my dreams since they are an essential part of my life. However, there are three things that always exist in my dreams that do not exist in reality.
In case it's helpful, below are the topics covered in this post:
We are Always on Vacation
My dogs regularly play a role in my dreams. Sometimes they are simply background characters, meaning they are present but not essential to the storyline of my dream.
Other times they play a supporting role, meaning there's a time when one or all my dogs are the focus of my attention in my dream. For example, a few weeks ago I dreamt of taking my dogs to a dog-friendly theme park for my senior dog's amusement. My focus of this dream was primarily on my senior dog, but my other dogs were also there for the fun.
No matter what role my dogs play in my dreams, we are always on vacation when they're present. Sometimes we are commuting to our destination. In most dreams on the other hand, we are already at our destination.
Very seldomly do I dream about solo vacationing with my dogs. Oftentimes we are accompanied by at least one other human being. Last night, I dreamt of vacationing with my dogs and parents.
In addition to my parents, I sometimes dream we are vacationing with my brother and his extended family. My late maternal grandmother sometimes joins us for quality family time together.
I'm a single female, so I find it strange that I sometimes dream that I'm vacationing with my dogs and significant other. It is always the same person in my dream, but I never remember his face or voice when I wake to face reality. When I dream of this fictional person, we do everything with the dogs while on vacation. The dogs are important supporting characters in these dreams.
Nothing bad ever happens to my dogs in my dreams. There was one dream where my senior dog, Shadow, led me to an ill dog to care for, but otherwise my dogs are always happy and healthy in the dreams. Vacation life is grand, especially since my dogs are always off-leash.
My Dogs are Always Off-Leash
In reality, my senior dog, Shadow, spends much of his time outside of the house off-leash. Shadow listens to verbal and non-verbal commands well. He stays close to me or my parents and never wanders off. He's a model doggy citizen if there was such a thing.
My small dog, Rascal, isn't as obedient off-leash. I've let him off-leash at dog parks and during rainy or snowy weather. For some reason, he is exceptionally obedient when the weather is not clear. If it is a sunny day, there is a chance that Rascal would want to run off and play.
Yet, in my dreams, my dogs are always off-leash. In fact, no dogs are leashed in my dreams. They all walk freely alongside their humans well.
There were a few dreams where Shadow wandered off to greet other dogs or Rascal ran off to play on a playground without my permission. Dogs will sometimes do whatever they want in my dreams.
However, dogs are safe in my dreams. At least my three dogs were always obedient when they had to be like while waiting to cross a busy road or remaining quiet on a walk back to our accommodations late at night.
There are Three Dogs
For five years I have dreamt of owning three dogs. In reality, I only have two dogs: Shadow and Rascal.
The third dog is not the same in every dream. It could either be a large, medium, or small dog any given night. However, it is my third dog that I love and care for. In my dreams, the third dog is an important extension of my immediate family.
I do not know why I always dream of having a third dog. In reality, I am not able to properly care for another dog. I mentally struggle to be the best dog owner I can be for Shadow and Rascal.
I always worry that I am not good enough for them and that they deserve better in life. I often wonder why they love me so much considering how little I feel I do for them. I realize that is my paranoia, but it is the way my mind operates. Bringing a third dog into our lives does not seem fair to them.
I Have Not Researched the Meanings of My Dreams
Unlike My Dream of a Friendly and Playful Fox from a couple months ago, I do not research what different aspects of my dreams may mean. Considering that most dreams featuring my dogs are pleasant and nothing bad ever happens to them, I would imagine the dream interpretations are positive.
Many dream dictionaries may suggest that dreaming of taking a vacation is a sign that I'm in need of a break. This may be the case for many who dream of going or being on vacation, but not for me.
I believe these dreams are reflective of past vacations with my dogs. I rarely travel without my dogs. Because they make me feel good, all vacations I have taken with them were overall pleasant.
Dreaming about my three dogs off-leash is probably wishful thinking. In reality, I would love to let Shadow off-leash all the time. Fortunately, there are safe places (e.g., parks) where this is allowed.
I wished Rascal was as obedient off-leash so I can let him walk freely and worry-free more often. Maybe this is why my dreams are a safe haven for all dogs to roam off-leash.
No matter the deeper meaning, I am happy my dogs play a role in my dreams. I wake up refreshed and ready to spoil them rotten.
What's Next?
Reflecting on my dreams reminds me of an event that happened to me and my dogs last month. I may share that story and experience with you one day soon.
